Данная статья исследует функционирование природных ландшафтов как отражение экологического сознания в романах Джонатана Франзена и Эмили Сент-Джон Мандел, демонстрируя, что образы природы в современной литературе превращаются в значимый символ социальных и экологических трансформаций. Во введении приводится обоснование актуальности исследования, где особое внимание уделяется взаимосвязи между литературными образами природы и изменениями в общественном восприятии экологических проблем. Обоснованы теоретические рамки, опирающиеся на идеи экокритики и культурной экологии, а также освещена роль литературного повествования в формировании экологического сознания. В разделе методов представлена методология исследования, включающая сравнительный анализ текстов двух авторов. Применены методы дискурсивного анализа, семиотической интерпретации и контекстуализации, что позволило выделить специфические мотивы и символику природных ландшафтов. Детально описан процесс отбора репрезентативных фрагментов текстов, что обеспечивает объективный подход к анализу и позволяет выявить как явные, так и скрытые смысловые связи между описанием природы и идеями экологической ответственности. В разделе результатов раскрыты основные находки исследования: природные ландшафты в романах Франзена и Мандел выступают не только как бэкграунд повествования, но и как активные участники формирования экосознания героев и читательской реакции. Установлено, что динамичное изображение природы отражает современные вызовы цивилизации, подчеркивая неустойчивость окружающей среды и призывая к переосмыслению отношений между человеком и природой. Параллели и различия между подходами авторов позволяют глубже понять специфику отражения экологического кризиса в литературе. This article explores the functioning of natural landscapes as a reflection of ecological consciousness in the novels of Jonathan Franzen and Emily St. John Mandel, demonstrating that images of nature in modern literature are becoming a significant symbol of social and environmental transformations. The introduction provides a justification for the relevance of the study, which focuses on the relationship between literary images of nature and changes in public perception of environmental issues. The theoretical framework based on the ideas of ecocriticism and cultural ecology is substantiated, and the role of literary narrative in the formation of ecological consciousness is highlighted. The methods section presents a research methodology that includes a comparative analysis of the texts of the two authors. The methods of discursive analysis, semiotic interpretation and contextualization were applied, which made it possible to identify specific motifs and symbols of natural landscapes. The process of selecting representative text fragments is described in detail, which provides an objective approach to analysis and allows us to identify both explicit and hidden semantic links between the description of nature and the ideas of environmental responsibility. The results section reveals the main findings of the study: the natural landscapes in the novels of Franzen and Mandel act not only as the background of the narrative, but also as active participants in the formation of the characters' eco-awareness and reader's reaction. It is established that the dynamic image of nature reflects the modern challenges of civilization, emphasizing the instability of the environment and calling for a rethink of the relationship between man and nature. The parallels and differences between the authors' approaches allow for a deeper understanding of the specifics of the reflection of the environmental crisis in the literature. The discussion section interprets the results obtained: it analyzes how artistic images contribute to the formation of a critical attitude towards anthropocentrism, and discusses the prospects for further research in the field of ecoliterature. The result of the study is the conclusion that the literary depiction of natural landscapes is becoming an integral part of the modern dialogue on sustainable development, contributing to the formation of ecological culture and self-awareness.
