Characteristics of rail transportation in suburban traffic

Abstract

The article analyzes suburban rail transportation in the Russian Federation with an emphasis on their importance for ensuring stable transport accessibility and functional mobility of the population. The key advantages and disadvantages of this type of communication are considered, including the volume of carrying capacity, the level of environmental load, traffic stability, as well as problems such as obsolescence of rolling stock, economic imbalance and territorial unevenness of infrastructure provision. Statistical data for the years 2020-2024, covering traffic volumes, passenger turnover, the number of employed workers and their salaries, are analyzed. The proposals include measures to optimize the industry, including the introduction of digital management tools, the expansion of public-private partnership mechanisms, the improvement of tariff policy and the development of integration schemes for the interaction of various modes of transport.
